The Boys Are 8!

The boys turned 8 today. Each year goes faster and faster. It's crazy that they can be baptized now and are starting scouts. My dad got them their first scout book and they have read it a ton. They can't wait to go, although they are pretty sure that they literally go and live with scouts until they are older. We may finally have them convinced that is wrong but I guess we'll see what they say when they go to their first meeting.
We decided this year to have a friends party. They haven't had one yet, so they were excited to have friends over. The boys decided that a minecraft theme would be fun. With how popular the game is you think you could find stuff all over, but we had to make most of the things. Brad made the invites, which were awesome.
For one of the activities we made necklaces. Brad and I used the beads that melt when you iron them and made all of these little things. It was a huge pain, but the kids loved them.
In Minecraft there are lots of different elements that you can find and mine. Instead of a big cakes we just have a lot of treats that went with some of the elements you find on the game. They were a big hit. Nothing like getting kids hopped up on sugar then sending them home.

Instead of a pinata we had boxes of prizes. You had to mine the box using your neck, hands or feet to hold the mallet and then you got the prize inside. It actually was a big hit and fun to watch.
Cam using his neck to hit the box.

Then of course singing and presents. I love how happy their friends look here.

I like to do an update each year with the kids so here are the boys'.
Camden has grown so much this year. Not so much in height but in the way he acts. He still likes to bug people, but I think being is a different class than Beck has made him appreciate Beck more. There was more than once occasion that Beck was sick and Camden has worried all day if he was ok, this broken arm was the most he's worried. He loves the talks we have each night and makes sure I ask him if he's happy. He loves to tell me he is, which makes me happy too. Camden is really smart but is like Brad, not driven to give it his all 100% of the time. We've had to work with him this year on a few things, but he excels in school and really likes it, and math is his favorite subject. He still loves Minecraft like last year. Cam loves to eat my banana bread. (I made some this week for the first time in forever, apparently it has really stuck with him.) He had a hard time at the beginning of the year being in separate classes from Beck. He is the smaller kid and I think got picked on a little and didn't have Beck there to back him up. I will never put them in separate classes in elementary again.
He had a great birthday present today. He had to go for a pre-op for his surgery on Tuesday and for that they had to draw blood. Camden wasn't as easy going as Beck was. I had to hold his arms down and still, but I can't say I blame him, I'm an adult and I hate it. The guy who did it was awesome and go his vein on the first try, so it was pretty quick. Once it was over he said it wasn't that bad.
Beckham has gotten taller, he doesn't seem to stop growing. He didn't have a problem with the separate classes, but his teacher is awesome and really pushes his to do his best and has helped him excel. He has improved in all areas in school from last year. Beck reads like crazy and has over 40 points in school. He has also earned a trophy in his minute math (50 math problems in a minute) and is still working for a bigger one. He is like me and when he does well in something he keeps going and loves to see the progress. He doesn't really need to be pushed to keep going and gives 100% all the time. His favorite subject is math too. Beck does follow friends a lot. He has this way of talking that bugs me so much. It's not a normal voice, it's like he's trying to be sarcastic and funny, like old Jim Carry talk. We are working on getting his attitude and the way he talks to us better; it may be a long summer of work to just get it back when school starts again. He is sticking up for himself with Camden a little more, which is good to see. If you ask Beck for a hug he will just lean into you and let you do the hug, he won't actually hug. Like Cam he loves Minecraft. Beck's favorite food is pizza and anything sweet.
We love these two boys, they have been so much fun to have and watch grow. I just hope the next 8 years go by a little slower.
