Project Overload

The past two weekends have been busy, but not with football; we have been doing lots of projects.
What do you do when you get a new saw? Build a whole workbench for it. We needed some extra storage space anyways and this worked out perfectly. Since Brad finally had a 'man space' he had represent BYU and painted the Sailor Cougar on the wall. My only issue is that it gets dirty with dust. Yes that is the whole point of it, but still it should stay this clean and nice all the time.
A few weeks ago we got a new tv stand. We went for a minimal look and we love it. We have had our entertainment center since the boys were about 2 and looking at it you could tell. Two doors fell off and there were dings all over it. Even with all of that it was solid and still usable so we decided to up-cycle it. Being too excited to start the project I didn't take a before picture and went searching for it. (the dark middle bench only)
The after. I had to sand it all down. Then we stained the top and painted the bottom white. We love how it turned out and it works in place of the night stands that we were needing.

The last project we did was a sign for above out bed. We had extra wood, so why not add another project to the list? We are doing to re-stain the grey parts of our bed to match the rest of the things in our room. Now I need another project.

Rudy Award

On Monday 10/17 Beckhams team had an awards dinner at Gertie's. The kids were excited because it was all you can eat pizza (including dessert pizza). It was the typical football party, lots of young boys running around doing boy things and really loud. The coach started by reading a letter he had written to all of the kids (pictured below) about being a champion.
After that the coach called up each player individually and spoke a little about them and gave them their letter and a cookie. One of the stories they shared about Beck was as follows: Towards the end of the season we had a scrimmage and had Beck play tight end. We were amazed at all of the catches he was making so we asked "Beck, where did you get those hands?". Beck taking it literally answered the coaches saying "My mom...my dad...and Jesus". Everyone had a good laugh.

After each player came up the coach said they had one award to give out, called the "Rudy Award". It was for a player that showed up every day, worked hard and grinded it out when it got tough, and never complained. It wasn't for the flashy kid that got all the touchdowns, but the one who worked his butt off to make the team better each week. I had a feeling that it was Beck, but was still a little surprised when the called his name. The coach was emotional about it, Beck was emotional about it, and as a proud dad I was emotional about it too. The award is below, it was signed by the team.

He said he asked Beck on the second day of practice if he really wanted to play football and he answered "I don't know" (typical Beck). The coaches said that kid is either going to quit, or he is going to get better....and he worked hard and got better. I know it was tough for Beck at the beginning and he may have wanted to quite, but he had such a great attitude about it. I would always ask him when I picked him up how practice was, and his answer every day when the going got tough was "Better than yesterday". I am very proud of him and his positive attitude and hard work, it definitely paid off in a great football season.

Random Things

The boys (and maybe a little of Brad and I too) have really gotten into this card game Magic. It's a really fun game to play with the boys. A few weekends ago we did a draft type game and the boys had a lot of fun with it. I have to say I get really annoyed when I lose. There aren't many games that make me competitive, but this one does.
In Emery's class they have a way that the kids can say things they like about each other and then also have the options for them to be read in class. These are the ones she brought home today and she was pretty excited for what they all said. It's fun to see how they spell things. My favorite one says, 'I like her pans and her shoos and her sort. ps, were do you get your closs."
Last week the boys were running around without shirts on and for some reason my brother was going to come over. We told them they may want shirts one when they come. They both said they didn't care and would keep them off. We asked even if they even care if Kiara sees them (our 16 year old neice). They thought about it and Camden said "well maybe, I don't know why but I used to have a crush on her." We laughed a little at how honest he was and I think he was a little embarrassed, but it was still a funny thing for him to say.

Being Good

The school rewards the kids sometimes when they are being good while others aren't. Jacks came home excited the other day because he got a "caught being good" note and pencil. His note said "working so hard in kindergarten and being a great example to your classmates." He was very proud. Cam and Beck have gotten 2 as well, they just don't like having to have a picture with them.

Football Champs

Backham's team made it to the championship game for football. They played Saturday under the lights. Beckham was so excited and nervous for the game. The team they were playing had beat them the week before. One thing I can not handle is when the kids are truly upset about something, and Beck was so sad they lost that game. It was actually probably a good thing they lost because it gave the whole team that much more drive to come back and win.
Brad made some signs. Since we came up with the name Beckham he has been waiting to make a sign "Wreck'em Beckham". The kids liked holding them. One of the plays Emery held it up high and the team stopped them on 4th down. Emery was so excited her sign worked.
One mom made a sign for them to run through at the beginning.
Both teams were really good and it was a tough game. Both teams played really hard but our team won 6 to 0. They were all so excited and it was hard to get them to just stand for pictures.
We have loved the coaches that Beck had. They pushed the team really hard, but also showed that they cared and just wanted them to do their best while having fun. If only all coaches could be like these ones.

They had to say their name before they got their trophy.

 The 2016 Jr. football champs!
Such a fun season. It was really good for Beck to do and we really hope he does it again. I do have to say I am glad we have our evenings back and don't have to run him to practice every day though.

Emery's Baptism

Last weekend was a very special one for Emersyn; she was able to be baptized by Brad. She has been excited for this day all year, knowing she's going to be 8.
I looked all over here and the internet for a dress, they were either way too much money or way to much dress, they looked like mini wedding dresses. Her Aunt Michelle came to the rescue and made her this beautiful dress. It had to have a little pink to match her personality.

It was a really good day filled with lots of family support.
Here is what Emery wanted to say about her baptism day: The water was really warm. A lot of family came to my baptism day to see me. After a lot of my cousins, aunts, and uncles gave me some presents because they missed my birthday.

Football Jacks

With Beck being in football it has gotten Jacks and Cam playing a little at home too. They wanted Brad to take a picture so they could make trading cards. Jacks didn't quite catch the ball, but did make a sweet pose and face though.

Jacks' Book

Jackson love Goosebumps and loves having the books. Even though he can't read he loves to look through them. The other day Grandma Arrington surprised him by sending him one in the mail. He carried it around all day and even slept with it by him at night. The best part to me was the bookmark. He sees the boys use cards as bookmarks so he had to do it too. Someday he will be able to actually read them himself and I'm sure he'll love them even more.

Movie Night

We had a movie night with the kids tonight. They love when we let them use tickets to buy treats so we did that this time again. The only bad thing is when we moved a got rid of all our tickets. You know times are different when they would rather use a debit card to pay for things. We give them enough 'credits' to get 2 things, so it's nice to see them work together so they can get everything but share.
We took our bed out too this time, another favorite thing for them too. For some reason they chose to watch both of the "Wrath of the Titans" movies. It was unanimous, so we had to go with that because that never happens.
