SDCC Day 1

The time flew by and this weekend was San Diego Comic Con. We were all ready and excited to go, but had no idea what we were getting into. Our flight was at 9. I've never flown in the dark, so that was weird. We got into San Diego semi late and the boys wanted to be gone by 6 to get to the convention center, so we got up at 5:30 am.

The mood as we flew. It was really cool looking, even though my camera didn't get a good picture.
We walked pass Petco Field going to the center. This was the only time these areas were clear of people. The next 3 days were full of lines and people.

These are the badges we got. You have to keep them on the whole time. We had to get the badges for the boys. Since they were 12 when we ordered the tickets they were free to get in.
We waited in line, then realized we needed a different line, so we walked to that line. We stated that about 6:30 or 7 and didn't move until 9:30 ish. Yes a very long time to be in a line. But we were pretty close to the front thankfully.
There was a line inside, and since you can't block things they broke the line and moved it outside. A lot of the lines went that way, they were at one spot, broke off and started at another spot. It made for a lot of walking to find the end of lines.
Some random yatt, but the trees in the back circle around toward the center. This area is the area you line up for Hall H, the NEXT day. Hall H is the big hall where the main panels are, so like Game of Thrones, Marvel. Some people stand/sleep in line for 18 to 24 hours. No panel is worth that.
This is part of the line for a free mini Lego. The other wraps down the stairs and around the building.
This is a major place where people dress up as their favorite characters. I was too shy to ask to take a picture, but I quickly stole one. She looked exactly like Arya Stark.
We waited in line for that long in hopes to get limited tickets. We tired for "The Banana Splits" which we got and Impractical Jokers panel. We got 3 tickets for that one. We tired to watch to see if someone had an extra, with no luck, but we saw a family get 3 and noticed they had more people. We asked how many they needed and 3 was it, so we gave them ours. We planned on going to a block party done by the Jokers. It was our good karma that came into play later.
Me and Pennywise
On of our big reason for going was Funko. We all love pops, if you don't know, but we didn't start off with luck. We tired for Funday tickets (a big party, you get free pops, sneak peeks into new ones and just have fun), we didn't get those tickets. Then we tried for the lottery to get into the Funko booth to buy pops there. Some booths you have to have a ticket to get into, due to popularity and limited amounts, but no luck there. We were a little sad, but still excited for the convention. Brad bought the Wifi on the flight because the pops we wanted drop during our flight. It took our whole hour flight but he got all that we wanted.
Back to the Funcast. We were late so really Brad and I didn't know if we wanted to go, but the boys did, so we went. Both boys brought a mini pop, incase to play a game they asked if you had one, and then you could get picked  for a prize. Luckily they did. We told Camden to stand on the seat, he's small and maybe that would help. The people behind us yelled 'hey pick the kid' and it worked, he got picked. He turned very white and was scared, but we pushed him and said just go, it will be fun. We later learned that that the guy who was picking the people to go up knew he picked one too many, but wanted Camden to go up.

Him in line. He was so scared. He was a little happy when it came down to the end they only had 5 questions so he didn't have to answer one. The guy said it's ok, just come back at the end for a picture anyways. And honestly I thought, 'a picture... really we can miss it' then I thought, if it goes on line, he'll think it's cool to be on the original Funko Instagram, so we went.
The guy in the hat is Sully, and he is in all of the live things and kind of the social media main guy. He is still so scared
All of the winners.
Ready for our Karma. Sully asked who had Funday tickets, 2 people did. He said well the rest of you, I'm giving you tickets! This was the best but work but best but worst thing that could happen. Twins, bring such a weird twist into things. Beck is the most into pops. No one doubts that. He started us all in pops and still knows the most about them. He asked what did Sully say with a few tears in his eyes and I was done, I couldn't look at him or talk because I stated to tear up as well. I barely got out Funday tickets. Camden looked so confused. He was excited but not. Brad had to do a few things to get the tickets, but I tried to get Beck away especially away from the crowd. Brad said it's okay bud, you'll get some pops from it. Beck said I know as he (and I) teared up. I took Cam off to the side and asked if he was okay. He said no, he wants Beck to go, he feels bad and doesn't know what to do. It took a while for all of us to get to a place where we were all happy and in my case,  not try.
After that we went to the exhibit area and i have never seen SO many people. This is just as you walk in.

We waited in a line, to get into a line to buy a mystery box. Camden's box had a $50 gift card in it. We walked around a lot, saw so many cool things and took lots of pictures.
Michael Myers cosplay
You can play a game, how many thumbs up does Beckham do.

The cast and creators of Spongebob

I saw this guy, knew he was famous but didn't know how. Again, too shy. I snuck a picture and sent it to a friend to see if she knew. He is on the new season of Stranger Things. You see these famous people and don't realize who they are because they aren't in character and somehow they look so different.
Then Camden and Beck went to get another mystery box and Camden got a box that said "grand prize" which meant he got a 500 limited edition pop. Yes I am taking him to Vegas next trip for good luck.
Orlando Jones on the karaoke bus,
So I didn't take any pictures of this because really I was too tired and didn't think much of it at the first. Before Camden on the Andy pop we decided to take things to the care. There was an off site Conan show that people said you may get the Conan themed pops at. It was 3+ blocks away. I (well all of us) was hot, tired and tiny cranky. I said whatever, I don't want to find anything else to do, sure. We were 1.5 hours early and had to sit on the street. I asked a few times are you sure we'll get pops. We got let in and there were things playing on screens, you could order food. Then some girl from "Fear the Walking Dead" came and showed a preview and served beer. I had a few times thinking, I knew it, no pops. Just after I thought that a guy came by with bags and gave us each one, which pops. Okay good job Brad, nice choice. Then another guy came by with more bags and gave us all another one. We got 8 free pops from that. While Cam and Beck got the Andy pop, we sold 4 of the Conan pops for $400! Okay Brad, you were right. (it's written down, I can't take it back.)
Out tickets for "The Banana Splits" was at 10 pm. It was a cool experience because we saw a movie before it was release, the writers and some actors were right in front of us, but man it was a lame movie. Very bloody. This horror movie was more comedy than horror. We all agree it was lame but a fun experience.
Our day 1 haul. We got up at 5:30am and 'home' sometime after midnight. We got a lot of cool things and even though it was a very long day, it was so much fun.

If we went again, I'd try for 2 days, one day for panels and the other for the exhibits. I'd  get these mini chairs people had, the folded small and fit in a backpack. Wear clouds instead of shoes, my feet killed. Take better snacks but not as many and more water. Oh and 100% pay extra for the hotels down the street from the convention center so you can go a relax for a little bit. Day 1 was a success and lot of fun. We all slept well that night, but woke up early again for day 2.
